Found summer of 2008 - 5/28/2019
I found Presious under an abandoned house in Fayette County Tennessee. My father in law had already tried to get her and her other sibling out with no success. After her sibling died I decided it was time to try to get her out from under the house myself. Keep in mind they were pups left there and they had become wild in a sense, they did not want to come in contact with humans. They ate what was left for them and then hid under the house.
After a barbecue at my father in law's house I took some cooked meat over to the house and placed it on a plate near a well used entrance she was using to get under the house. I sat near the entrance for about an hour waiting for her to stick her head out that hole. As soon as she stuck her head out I immediately grabbed her by the neck as a momma dog might and embraced her in my arms until I got back to the house and I let her enjoy her meal.
Precious was an incredibly smart dog. I have to say she's been the smartest of the 8 dogs we have owned. She has been the only dog to figure out how to use the trash can with a foot pedal to open the lid. She would set near the kitchen garbage can and wait till we had all gone to another room, then she would strike pouncing on the foot pedal then jumping up to stick her head in the trash can before the lid closed to get left over food. I had to empty the trash can more often after she figured out how to do that. On top of that she always sat next to the back door and barked when she wanted to go outside. A desirable trait that I always appreciated. She also loved to sit slightly on my feet, which kept my feet warm in the winter. I will always miss that.
At the beginning of May 2019 she stoped eating her dog food and would only eat cooked meat. After a visit to the vet x-ray's revealed she had cancer in her stomach and lungs with fluid building up as well.
During her last month she got all the attention in the world and ate as much meat as she could, most of that meat was Corky's sliced brisket.
If you see a dog in need of help and you have the means and the time, help them they will love you for it.
